- Denso develops world's first refrigeration cycle system for passenger vehicles that uses an ejector

Denso has developed the world's first refrigeration cycle system for passenger vehicles that uses an ejector. The system is used for both an air conditioner and cooler box (vehicle refrigerator). By using an ejector that rapidly injects and expands high-pressure refrigerant, the energy that previously was lost in the expansion valve is converted to pressure energy and reused, thus boosting energy efficiency. As a result, high cooling and refrigeration performances are both achieved even when the cooler box is used.

- Lexus IS F premium sports car to be launched in Japan

The IS F is a Lexus "F" premium sports car based on the concept of proposing a new level of performance for Lexus through a refinement of basic performance with the addition of new cruising technology. The vehicle was developed to pursue, to the fullest extent possible, the "joy of driving" — which is one of the fundamental appeals of the automobile — by responding reliably and performing as intended. The hood, grille, front fenders and front and rear bumpers, rocker panel molding, rear spoiler and other elements of Lexus IS F were designed exclusively for the IS F based on the Lexus design philosophy "L-finesse". The exterior styling has a dynamic yet simple form that expresses the vehicle's cruising performance and functionality. Based on the IS series, the IS F boasts a completely new engine and transmission, an exclusive suspension and specially selected aluminum wheels and tires. The 8-Speed Sport Direct Shift transmission is based on the eight-speed automatic transmission used on the LS460 series, with electronic control technology that provides the benefits of both the smooth shifting of an automatic transmission for comfortable driving and a full-scale, sporty manual transmission that does not need a clutch — which is without precedent anywhere in the world for an eight-speed transmission.

The Lexus IS F premium sports car was tested extensively on race circuits in Japan and overseas, including Fuji Speedway, in order to demonstrate its full potential. The 14-speaker Mark Levinson premium surround-sound audio system has been tuned specifically for the IS F (optional on all vehicles in the series).

- Honda Human-Friendly Transmission with world’s first lockup mechanism for Motorcycles

Honda has developed a new automatic transmission system for motorcycles using Honda’s own infinitely variable hydraulic mechanical transmission- the Human-Friendly Transmission (HFT). Easy to operate, the HFT realizes outstanding relaxed riding comfort, riding feel with direct response and excellent transmission efficiency. The HFT also features the world’s first lockup mechanism for an infinitely variable hydraulic mechanical transmission. When cruising, this lockup mechanism works to minimize transmission efficiency losses, contributing to improved fuel economy.

With Honda's own infinitely variable hydraulic mechanical transmission, this HFT realizes the lightweight and compact configuration required for motorcycles. To meet the wide range of rider needs, HFT offers a selection from two fully automatic shifting modes—D mode for ordinary riding and S mode for a sporty riding experience—or the 6-speed manual mode, which gives riders the option of riding with a manual transmission feel. The HFT creates a unique riding feel through easy operation, ranging from relaxed and laid-back riding to nimble and sporty with direct throttle response.

- Epson Toyocom XV-8000LK pre-tilted gyro-sensor on display at CEATEC JAPAN 2007

Epson Toyocom has developed a new pre-tilted gyro-sensor that can be installed in car navigation systems. As the latest addition to the XV-8000 series, the XV-8000LK is ideal for dead reckoning, a method used in car navigation to determine position. For the gyro-sensors in the XV-8000 series Epson Toyocom employed its unique crystal gyro-element design for outstanding stability. Gyro-sensors installed in in-dash car navigation systems for DR become tilted when the systems are mounted in inclined dashboards. DR software is used to compensate for this tilt and provide greater navigational accuracy. However, depending on the inclination of the dashboard, DR correction software is not always able to fully correct for this tilt, a fact that spurred market demand for gyro-sensors that are themselves pre-tilted. The XV-8000 sensor in the recently developed XV-8000LK is assembled with a pre-tilt angle in the package. This pre-tilt affords greater flexibility in determining the installation angle.

- InvenSense IDG-1000 dual-axis gyroscope for Hitachi Blu-ray disc camcorders

InvenSense today announced that its IDG-1000 series dual-axis gyroscope, which enables image stabilization systems in digital cameras, has been chosen by Hitachi, Ltd. for use in two models of its Blu-ray disc camcorders- DZ-BD70A and DZ-BD7HA. The Hitachi camcorders are the world’s first camcorders to support Blu-ray disc technology with full high definition (1920x1080) video capture.. With such high resolution, even the smallest amount of natural hand shake will make a major impact on the overall quality and smoothness of the video, and will be amplified further with high zoom rate lenses. Eliminating the effects of hand shake requires electronic image stabilization using a dual-axis gyroscope. The InvenSense IDG-1000 series gyroscope, found in many popular digital still camera models, provides added benefits for camcorders that have video disc recorders and hard disk drives.

- Mazda Taiki future generation of Mazda sports car

The fourth concept car in the Nagare design series, Mazda Taiki further evolves the “flow” theme to establish a breathtaking presence that clearly distinguishes it as the next in the series, and which visually expresses the atmosphere – called taiki in Japanese – that wraps the Earth in its protective mantle. The basic proportions begin with the stretched coupe form of a front-engine rear-wheel-drive layout, the short overhangs, and the liberating feel of an all-glass canopy. The challenge to create “a design that visually expresses the flow of air” was inspired by the image of a pair of Hagoromo – the flowing robes that enable a celestial maiden to fly in Japanese legend – floating down from the sky.

Inspired by Japanese koinobori – the decorative “climbing carp streamers”– the notion of creating an Air-tube became the concept word for the interior design. In accordance, from the dashboard and seats down to the door trim, the interior space creates the dynamic sensation that the flow of the wind is being visually depicted.
