Sanyo announced the miniaturization and weight saving technologies used for worlds smallest and lightest full HD (1920 × 1080i) camcorder DMX-HD1000. Sanyo DMX-HD1000 the latest model of Xacti series camcorders released in September 2007 weighs 268g .The miniaturization and weight saving could be achieved because the image processing functions, which are usually allotted to several chips, were integrated in one chip. This reduced not only the volume (272cc) and mass of the LSI but also the number of heat radiators for the LSI.
The Sanyo DMX-HD1000 is equipped with Platinum Σ Engine, a chip that can rapidly process movies (MPEG) and pictures (JPEG) in parallel by sharing the memory bus. This codec reduced the power consumption of the full HD camcorder by one-third and the circuit size by 40%, and enhanced the data compression ratio of MPEG-4 by 50% to about 1/100.

The new telescope will feature a large central mirror comprising 492 individual hexagon-shaped mirrors, each about 4.8 feet across and about 1.8 inches thick -- a little smaller and thinner than those in the Keck telescopes.

The system, developed with Mitsubishi Electric Corp, consists of highly detailed electronic signals which are put inside films and other visual works but invisible to the human eye. If a person copies the film at a cinema or in front of a television screen, his or her camera will automatically tape the signal which will stay in the machine's memory. Automatic software can then search the Internet using the coded signal to find any works that have been illegally copied. The code can also help authorities trace the exact cinema and screening at which the person illegally taped a film.

This machine promises to wash a full load of your dirty linen, without using any chemicals. Instead, the "E-wash" uses a more natural product - nuts. It is designed to work with soapnuts, natural seeds which have been used in Asia to clean clothes for hundreds of years. This particular machine ensures that the soapnuts are added to the wash at just the right time - and that any pieces of nut are washed away before a cycle ends. The makers say the nuts are much healthier for the planet than chemical powders, liquids or tablets, once washed away down our pipes. And soapnuts can be cultivated anywhere, cutting down on the pollution and costs associated with transport. The machine was chosen from a field of dozens by the appliance company Electrolux for its annual green design awards. Electrolux says an E-wash could be on the market within a few years.

Following in the footsteps of billboards in Canada and Africa, a California electricity provider says it installed America's first solar-powered billboard that makes more electricity than it uses. Using a Fronius IG 3000 grid-tie inverter, the renewable energy is converted to alternating current (AC) power and fed into the electricity grid.
The billboard -- topped off with 20 solar panels -- is located at 1000 Brannan St. in San Francisco, and is visible from the Highway 101 9th Street exit. On sunny days, the sign converts sunlight into about 3.4 kilowatts of energy, which is almost enough to power the household of an average U.S. family of four during the day. Zelwer said the billboard generates about 2.5 kilowatts of energy during cloudy days.
