Hitachi Unveils 35mm thick prototype 50-inch PDP TV
Hitachi.jpg Hitachi unveiled a prototype 50-inch PDP TV featuring a "thickness of 1.5 inches" (approx. 35mm) at the 2008 International CES. Hitachi plans to commercialize an ultrathin 50-inch PDP like this prototype in 2009. The key factor that enabled the thickness reduction was the enhanced luminance efficiency of the panel, Hitachi said. The new Hitachi PDP TV is reportedly able to ensure the luminance at a certain level with a lower input power, thereby making it easier to overcome a technical hurdle relating to the heat dissipation. In addition, the company employed a new technology for a heat dissipation mechanism, which is different from the technology used in the 35mm thick LCD TV released at the end of 2007. In Hitachi's latest prototype PDP TV, part of the power circuit is integrated with the back side of the display, whereas all the circuit boards are provided externally in Pioneer Corp's prototype 9mm thick 50-inch PDP TV. Hitachi's TV does not incorporate a tuner because it is a prototype.

Iriver's Lplayer – saucy little player.
Iriver's_Lplayer_1.jpg Iriver's ongoing teaser site has now been updated with a bevy of Spinn images, plus the first Lplayer shots we've seen anywhere. All we really picked up from the Spinn shots is that it'll be available in pure white or brush metal, but the Lplayer shots solved a couple mysteries. It looks like iriver is positioning the Lplayer as a sort of Clix mini, with a 2-inch display surrounded by almost zero bezel, and that same D*Click interface. Iriver looks to be further stressing the simplicity of the device with an ultra-minimal interface, but is spicing things up a little with a color selection of white, purple, brown and cyan.

Panasonic's 32GB SDHC- Tiny Goliath.
panasonic_32gb_sdhc.jpg Panasonic, a leader in High Definition technology, today announced the development of the world's first 32 Gigabyte (GB) SD High Capacity (SDHC) Memory Card with Class 6 speed specification, perfect for recording High Definition video. It has the ability to store up to eight hours of High Definition video. The card, launched alongside two SD card-carrying camcorders is described as "ideal for AVCHD High Definition video," and can hold over five hours of full resolution 1080i video. In digital camera terms, the card should be able to store around 6800 images from the latest 12MP compacts (assuming an average file size of around 4.5MB per image). Or more than 190 rolls worth of 36 exposure film, for those who still think in such terms. Certainly it's enough to last for even the most shutter-happy holidays. The card is also equipped with a new user-friendly labeling feature, which allows users to write titles or comments directly onto labels on the front and back of the card. Panasonic is planning to introduce the new labeling feature in its other SD Memory Card models, with a running changeover from the current card designs in spring 2008.
