Gold Mickey Mouse statue to promote the Blu-ray DVD release of National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets in Japan: Walt Disney Studio Home Entertainment and jeweler Ginza Tanaka have made this gold Mickey Mouse statue as part of a campaign to promote the Blu-ray DVD release of “National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets.” The 12-cm-tall, 1-kg statue, which is valued at 3.23 million yen ($31 095) will be displayed in Tanaka’s Ginza store through April 29, and then tour Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka and Sendai.

Toyota High-Tech Simulator Helps Racecar Safety: Toyota has developed a computer simulation which recreates high speed accidents and their effects on human physiology. Using the new system called Total Human Model Safety (THUMS), the FIA Institute and Toyota have been able to study the kind of serious injuries that are difficult to measure with conventional crash-test dummies. The results of the new study are in the process of completion. The FIA Institute targeted this technology specifically to help study high speed rear impact crashes in the FIA Formula One World Championship and Indy Racing League (IRL). The THUMS technology has proved a very effective system in analyzing the complex interaction between the driver's body and the car in a high speed accident.

Hitachi Metal Develops world's smallest triaxial acceleration sensor: Hitachi Metals Ltd developed a new triaxial acceleration sensor, which the company claims is the worlds smallest. Compared with the company's existing product, the new piezoresistive-type sensor is 30% smaller in volume and 46% lighter. It is resistant to impacts of more than 20,000g. The maximum detectable acceleration is ±4 or ±8g. In piezoresistive-type sensors such as this, the displacement caused by the acceleration of a weight based on the MEMS technology is detected as a deflection in the silicon beam supporting the weight. The deflection is measured based on the variation of resistance in a piezoresistor formed in the Si beam.

DoCoMo to Develop Operator Pack for FOMA 3G handsets compatible with specifications by the LiMo Foundation: NTT DoCoMo will develop an operator pack for FOMA 3G handsets compatible with specifications established by the LiMo Foundation . The pack will contain a suite of Linux operating system-based software applications that implement i-mode, i-appli and other unique DoCoMo services. It will make use of existing assets developed by DoCoMo, including application software and MOAP (Mobilephone Oriented Application Platform) middleware now used in selected DoCoMo handsets. The new operator pack will incorporate elements of a Linux-version MOAP that DoCoMo has developed with NEC Corporation and Panasonic Mobile Communications Co., Ltd.
