- Very soon you can recharge your cell phones batteries in seconds rather than hours
MIT engineers have created a kind of beltway that allows for the rapid transit of electrical energy through a well-known battery material, an advance that could usher in smaller, lighter batteries -- for cell phones and other devices -- that could recharge in seconds rather than hours. The work led by Gerbrand Ceder, the Richard P. Simmons Professor of Materials Science and Engineering, is reported in the March 12 issue of Nature. Using their new processing technique, Ceder and Byoungwoo Kang, a graduate student in materials science and engineering went on to make a small battery that could be fully charged or discharged in 10 to 20 seconds (it takes six minutes to fully charge or discharge a cell made from the unprocessed material).

- Panasonic Garbage Recycler uses Platinum-palladium catalyst to recycle organic rubbish
Panasonic will launch a high-priced garbage-processing machine which makes use of a special platinum-palladium catalyst. The Panasonic RISAIKURA MS-N53 recycler can hold up to 2kg of organic garbage, such as food scraps, which it then mixes up and breaks down into compost with the assistance of heat and the platinum- palladium catalyst. The end result is compost that can be used on your garden, with Panasonic claiming it is better than store-bought fertilizer. Panasonic RISAIKURA MS-N53 recycler has a number of different settings relating to what extent the garbage is dried out - between three and six hours. Users can select the shorter option if they intend to create compost with more protein to help the fertilisation of plants and vegetables, while the longer option suits long-term fertilization of trees.

- Samsung NX series- A revolutionary new family of hybrid digital cameras
The NX series from Samsung is a revolutionary new family of hybrid digital cameras. A new concept digital camera, the Samsung NX Series offers the performance and image quality of a DSLR and the portability and convenience of a compact point-and-shoot. Samsung’s new NX Series bridges the gap between a DSLR and compact point-and-shoot digital camera by combining the benefits of both in one new model. Like conventional DSLRs, the NX Series utilizes an APS C sized image sensor providing a much larger surface area to gather light and produce higher-quality images than comparable digital camera systems. Unlike a DSLR, the NX Series does not feature a mirror box and employs an ultra-precise Electronic Viewfinder (EVF). The use of an EVF has allowed Samsung engineers to significantly reduce the size and weight of the new camera system by decreasing the distance between the lens and image sensor (flange back) by approximately 60% compared to traditional DSLRs. In addition to utilizing the EVF, consumers can also take advantage of the camera’s Live View functionality to frame their shots on the NX Series’ high resolution screen.
