Texas Instruments announces world’s smallest 1.1-A Li-Ion linear battery charger: Texas Instruments announced today world’s smallest 1.1-A Li-Ion linear battery charger with integrated 50-mA low-dropout regulator to support mobile phones and other handheld electronics. The new bq25040 comes in a small 2 mm x 3 mm package, and can regulate voltage within one-percent accuracy from a USB port or AC adapter. The device's integrated LDO allows a mobile application to power up instantly from an external power source, even with an empty or absent battery.

Sony Showcases energy saving organic EL and 3D display at Finetech Japan 2009: Finetech Japan 2009, one of the world's largest FPD shows, is being held in Tokyo from April 15-17.This year in addition to the FPD Components and Material Expo and Display 2009 shows, there are two new events, Touch Panel Japan and Lighting Japan (LED/OLED Lighting Technology Expo), this year. TDK announces Gigaspira Multilayer gigahertz band chips with highest impedance in 1005 size: TDK has developed three types of MMZ1005-E Gigaspira multilayer gigahertz band chip bead product with the industry’s highest impedance. In recent years, mobile devices such as mobile phones have incorporated numerous advanced functions in addition to standard talk functions such as terrestrial digital broadcast and FM broadcast reception and GPS functions. When they are used, each of these functions requires a different signal, and if radiated noise affects the reception antenna or high-frequency circuit units, reception sensitivity can deteriorate. Consequently, it is necessary to efficiently eliminate noise from high-density mounted circuits and isolate each signal. To respond to these market needs, TDK developed three high-impedance products that can efficiently eliminate noise over a wide band using a single chip.

Honda demonstrates its prototype walking assist devices for the first time in the U.S: Honda is demonstrating its prototype walking assist devices for the first time in the U.S. Intended to support walking for the elderly; people with weakened leg muscles the Honda Prototype Walking Assist Devices are currently being tested in real-world conditions to evaluate their effectiveness. The company has applied for more than 130 patents for the devices. The first device, Stride Management Assist, is a lightweight, wearable device designed for people with weakened leg muscles, but who can still walk on their own. It obtains information about the user's walking motions from hip angle sensors. Based on the information, the CPU applies cooperative control and calculates the amount and timing of the assistance to be provided. With the device's assistance, the user's stride is lengthened compared to their normal stride and the walking pace regulated, thereby making it easier to walk.
