Seoul Subway launches World’s first RFID-based scheme for single-journey reusable ticketing
seoul_subway.jpg The world’s first RFID-based scheme for single-journey reusable ticketing in mass transportation has recently gone live in Seoul, South Korea, and is expected to save some 3 billion Won (over US$2.4 million) per year using a robust solution based on RFID technology from STMicroelectronics. In the new system, automated vending machines issue the Single Journey Ticket in exchange for each passenger’s payment plus a 500 Won deposit for the ticket. Each ticket contains ST’s SRT512 contactless memory chip, which has features that allow the cards to be returned and re-issued to new passengers. This recycling of the tickets will save the cost and environmental impact of generating hundreds of millions of disposable paper tickets.

Korean company TmaxSoft dares to challenge Microsoft Windows OS

TmaxSoft launched Tmax Window in an attempt to create viable competition in the OS market. More than 300 researchers have developed the system over almost five years. TmaxSoft claims that Tmax Window has a high rate of compatibility with Microsoft software titles and the chairman of the company says the system is more stable and suitable for many users. Microsoft has been criticized for unfairly stifling competition by packaging its OS with its other software applications such as MS Office and Internet Explorer. Most of the people who attended the launching ceremony said that they will use Tmax Window instead of Microsoft's product as long as it suits their needs.

Honda RC142 – 50 years of World Championship Racing
honda_rc142.jpg 2009 marks the 50th anniversary of Honda’s participation in World Grand Prix racing, and to commemorate this event a team has been at work for the past two years restoring the RC142. Honda first participated in the World Championship Racing (WGP) Isle of Man TT Race in 1959. The motorcycle it developed for that race was the RC142 works machine, fitted with an air-cooled, 4-stroke, DOHC, 4-valve, 2-cylinder 125cc engine. honda_rc142_team.jpg The project team handled the restoration based on the original blueprints and photos. When the restored RC142 was road tested at Twin Ring Motegi Naomi Taniguchi (age 73), who placed 6th in the original race, gave an exquisite riding performance, bringing the Honda sound of 50 years ago roaring back to life.
