STC3100.jpg STMicroelectronics has introduced a battery-condition monitoring IC enabling increased accuracy for ‘fuel-gauge’ style indicators showing the operating time remaining. The STC3100 battery-monitor IC can be located in the battery pack or in the handheld device, and integrates functions to monitor the battery voltage, current and temperature. It has a built-in Coulomb counter to calculate battery charge, and stores the data at 16-bit resolution for retrieval by the system controller. Access is via an industry-standard I2C interface, enabling the controller to create an accurate graphical representation of remaining battery-operating time.

A roadside DSRC device sends traffic information and other information to help increase driving safety to the onboard DSRC unit; the unit then passes on the information to the driver through the navigation system in written, graphic or other image form or through voice guidance. toyota_a.jpg The navigation-system-linked DSRC unit, through the use of intelligent transportation systems (ITS) technologies, including Japan's electronic toll collection framework, receives a wide range of traffic information via vehicle-infrastructure communications and provides it to highway drivers in visual form and through voice guidance. Sony Walkman outsells iPod in Japan for the first time in four years

OKI Web Sensing collects environment information from the office to help reduce wasteful energy use and electricity costs

The service measures and collects environment information from the office -temperature, humidity and electric energy usage with sensor networks, and sorts the data on a server via Internet. For this service, several devices are placed in the office to measure electric energy usage, humidity, temperature, etc., and via sensor networks, the data is measured and collected in a minimum of every ten minutes. The collected data is stored on the server, which then can produce graphs and CSVs. By gathering electric energy usage and CO2 emission data and viewing the results in a simple manner, users can easily understand the environmental impact they cause, and can help reduce wasteful energy use and electricity costs.
