Honda will begin sales of a limited number of the Civic Type R Euro, a premium sports model with a distinctive, stylish form and performance that was forged on European roads. Only 2,010 units will be available for sale in Japan. The ultimate driving performer in the European Civic series, the Civic Type R Euro is manufactured in the United Kingdom by Honda of the UK Manufacturing Ltd. This is the second time since 2001 that this model has been exported to Japan.
Japanese actress Ryoko Yonekura officially started the holiday season at Roppongi Hills on Wednesday, lighting up the 520,000 white and blue bulbs of the area’s Christmas display. The 13-day Tokyo Motor Show wrapped up on Wednesday at the Macular Messe convention hall in Chiba, with total visitors less than half that of the previous show. The show aimed to draw over 1 million visitors by offering test-rides of the latest models and other events, but fell short of its goal. The show, held once every two years, drew 614,400 visitors in total this year, falling short of the 2007 event's total of 1.42 million. Major overseas manufacturers largely refrained from participating in this year's show, with only three foreign auto makers taking part.

NEC today announced the availability of its four new single-chip IO-Link solutions for IO-Link slave applications based on the close cooperation between NEC Electronics and its business partners ELMOS Semiconductor AG and TMG-Karlsruhe. The new IO-Link solutions combine NEC Electronics' All FlashTM 78K0R 16-bit microcontroller and IO-Link transceiver, with integrated IO-Link slave protocol stack in a single package.
Honda announced that the all-new 2010 Honda Accord Crosstour is set to debut on November 20 in the US. The Accord Crosstour combines the sophisticated refinement of a premium sedan with versatile characteristics of an SUV to create an entirely distinct concept within the Crossover Utility Vehicle (CUV) segment. All Accord Crosstour models come standard with a 3.5-liter i-VTEC V-6 engine with Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) designed for power and efficiency. The engine produces 271 horsepower at 6,200 RPM and 254 lb-ft. of torque at 5,000 RPM while achieving an EPA-rated city/highway fuel economy of 18/27 mpg on 2WD models. The VCM cylinder deactivation system is programmed to run on 3, 4 or 6 cylinders, based on current power requirements.

STMicroelectronics has announced a robust low-power processor chip dedicated to managing SIM data for machine-to-machine (M2M) cellular communications. The ST32-M IC family combines the advantages of advanced non-proprietary processor architecture and high-density low-power embedded-Flash memory, enabling machines to connect to cellular networks and to authenticate themselves and communicate automatically. Applications that use M2M capabilities include the European eCall road-accident alert system, planned for launch in 2010, which allows vehicles to automatically inform rescue services of the location and details of an accident. Other M2M applications include automatic utility-meter reading; retail systems, such as replenishment monitoring for vending machines; security equipment; and asset-management systems.
