Samsung has begun mass producing the industry’s first low-power (green) four gigabit (Gb) DDR3 devices using 40 nanometer (nm) class process technology. The high-density memory is expected to bring significant power savings to data centers, server systems and high-end notebooks. Samsung’s 40nm-class Green DDR3 is optimized to enhance energy-efficiency ratings for servers seeking to comply with or exceed new Energy Star power consumption specifications. Production of the 4Gb DDR3 raises the amount of memory for use in servers to 32Gigabytes (GB) per module, which is twice the maximum density achieved with modules based on 2Gb components.
The revolutionary Honda 3R-C three wheeled battery electric vehicle concept shows what a future minimal urban transport vehicle for one person might look like. The battery electric drivetrain is mounted low in the three wheeled chassis, therefore keeping the centre of gravity low and thus improving stability. The Honda 3R-C has a clear canopy that covers the driver's seat while it is parked and not in use. When 3R-C vehicle is in motion, the canopy becomes an enveloping wind-shield that provides the pilot, who sits low in the vehicle, with significant protection from the bodywork and doors.
LG is to launch a campaign to prevent children from being locked in washing machines. The company's decision comes after a child was found dead in a front-loading washing machine in Daejeon, Korea on Sunday. Apparently, the child suffocated playing in the machine while his parents were away. Introduced to Korea in early 2001, front-loading washing machines make it easier for children to get inside. In 2008, two children got stuck in them and died because the door could not be opened from inside.
Epson Toyocom today announced the development of the AH-6100LR, the world's smallest 6-axis sensor. This low-noise, low-power Epson product comprises a 3-axis QMEMS quartz gyro-sensor and an extremely stable 3-axis accelerometer within a single package. The AH-6100LR has a wide dynamic range of 81 to 83 dB (200 Hz output bandwidth), enabling high-precision control via accurate tracing and helping improve the certainty of motion recognition. The high-integrity analog signal output of the AH-6100LR has the flexibility to meet the need for mixed signal processing in customer systems.
Kyocera has successfully developed the new KLE Series thermal printhead for desktop card printers used to print onto rigid materials such as ID cards and credit cards. The new printhead is capable of 300-dpi, full-color, high-resolution printing at 50mm per second — the industry’s highest speed for this type of printhead. The new printhead employs Kyocera’s proprietary double partial glaze (DPG) structure in the real edge head. The DPG structure uses the convex shape of the heat-storage glaze layer to increase thermal efficiency for printing, thus achieving a speed about 1.5 times that of the company’s conventional real-edge printhead. This series also achieves a high-resolution print quality by using a split structure for the heater.

LG Display has obtained Microsoft’s Windows 7 Touch Logo certification for its touch screen panels. The certified product is a 13.3-inch Capacitive In-Cell Multi-Touch LCD Panel for notebook PCs with multi-touch functions that enable simultaneous recognition of two touch points. Unlike the conventional touch screen products where generally films for touch screen function are applied to the standard display, the product has touch sensors built into the display. The panel is appropriate for notebook PCs that are frequently used outdoors, as it prevents light reflection and brightness declines that films generally cause.
