Teijin unveils two-seater lightweight PU_PA electric vehicle built with carbon-fiber materials for $865,000!: Japanese Chemical maker Teijin on Tuesday unveiled its latest lightweight PU_PA electric vehicle built with carbon-fiber materials developed by the company. The two-seater lightweight PU_PA electric vehicle weighs just 437 kilograms, about half that of rival electric vehicles. Carbon-fiber materials developed by Teijin, at one-fifth the weight of steel but 10 times stronger, is used for the vehicle body. Special plastics are used for the windows.

NTT Docomo launches Experia smartphone to challenge Apple iPhone marketed by Softbank in Japan: Models hold NTT Docomo’s new Experia smartphone during an event to mark the product’s launch in Akihabara on Thursday. The smartphone is based on Google’s Android operating system. The Sony Ericsson Mobile handset, which is 119 by 63 by 13.1 millimeters, is positioned to challenge Apple’s iPhone marketed by Softbank Mobile Corp. The Xperia allows users to swiftly download music, pictures and video from personal computers and to access services provided by Google, Docomo said. The Xperia is the second Android-based smartphone marketed by NTT Docomo. Sanyo Megawatt-level HIT Photovoltaic Modules in Awaji City to reduce CO2 emissions by 330 tons per year: Sanyo will install megawatt-level HIT photovoltaic modules at the city hall, community center and other sites in Awaji City, Hyogo, Japan. Working together, the City of Awaji and Hyogo Prefecture expect that the new solar power facilities will help attract environmentally conscious companies to the area, while promoting green energy and serving as a symbol of Awaji as an environmental island. The facilities will also be utilized to promote environmental learning and the entire project is scheduled for completion in the fall of 2010. The scale of new solar power facilities will be 1 megawatt, one of the largest of its kind for a public system in Japan, and is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by 330 tons per year. Apple and Hyundai to cooperate for an iPhone-controlled Auto?: Hyundai Motor, Korea’s largest automaker is allegedly seeking to cooperate with Apple to embrace the company’s iconic iPhone smartphone in its upcoming automobiles. Hyundai recently said it is preparing to converge vehicle and mobile phone, and is trying to co-plan and co-design with mobile-device makers. Toshiba Wins Major Order for Locomotives from Hyundai Rotem: Toshiba has won a major contract from South Korea's Hyundai Rotem for supply of key electrical equipment and systems for electric locomotives for Korean Railroad Corporation (Korail). The contract covers traction drive systems and auxiliary power supply systems for 56 6,600kW electric freight locomotives.
