Toshiba Accelerates Development of SCiB Rechargeable Battery for Electric Vehicles
toshiba_scib.jpg Toshiba today announced that it is working with Mitsubishi Motors to bring the SCiB battery to electric vehicles (EV). The SCiB is Toshiba's breakthrough rechargeable lithium-ion battery that combines high levels of safety with a long life and rapid recharging, characteristics that make it highly suited to application in electric vehicles. The SCiB module now under development houses the SCiB cells that utilizes the capabilities of the SCiB to the full: It optimizes usage of individual cells in the battery and this, along with the long life cycle of the SCiB, adds to the overall durability of the battery over different cruising distances.

Tokyo Disneyland reopens Jackson 3-D attraction after14 years

The theme park will run Captain EO for a limited time .The film starring Jackson, who died suddenly in June 2009, is directed by Francis Ford Coppola, with George Lucas serving as its executive producer. The film was a featured attraction at the theme park between 1987 and 1996, when the moon-walking King of Pop was at the height of his popularity.

Kyocera Solar Modules for Toyota Marine Recreational Boats to lower CO2 emissions

Toyota Solar Panels can also be installed as an optional unit on recreational boats manufactured by other companies. Sony to fix more than half a million VAIO laptops worldwide over possible overheating flaw

The overheating could occur when a user plugs in an adapter to charge when a battery in the laptop is nearly used up. So far, no injuries have been reported, but Sony has received a total of 39 problem reports, including 26 in the U.S., with users complaining about the heat and distortion of the shape of their computers. None of the problems were reported in Japan.

Seven-member crew of Space Shuttle mission visit Nikon Corporation
space_shuttle.jpg On June 30, 2010, astronaut Naoko Yamazaki of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency and six astronauts from NASA visited Nikon Corporation. The seven-member crew of Space Shuttle mission STS-131/19A, including Commander Alan Poindexter, were welcomed by Chairman Michio Kariya, President Makoto Kimura and managers of digital camera development. The primary purpose of the visit was the exchange of ideas and opinions regarding the Nikon D3S digital SLR cameras and interchangeable lenses that have been used aboard the International Space Station (ISS) since this mission. The reliability and stability of the equipment was a major topic of discussions.
