STMicroelectronics, today announced a new TV System-on-Chip (SoC) IC offering 3DTV support and advanced 120Hz MEMC (motion estimation, motion compensation). Designed for next–generation 1080p full-high-definition (FHD) integrated Digital TVs (iDTVs), ST’s new FLI7525 SoC enables a new class of mid-range, 3DTV-enabled, 120Hz Internet TVs. The FLI7525 is the industry’s first TV SoC with integrated 3DTV support and 120Hz MEMC processing. The FLI7525 also includes proprietary 2D to 3D conversion with its proprietary judder reduction technology and depth control for video and on-screen displays.

Kyocera will install solar power generating systems using the company’s own solar modules at six Japanese plants by March 2011, generating a total of 593kW. This move will increase the number of Kyocera domestic manufacturing sites equipped with solar power generating systems to 10 — all of the company's manufacturing sites in Japan — and the number of global group company sites to 20. Kyocera already has a number of solar power generating systems installed at its group companies inside and outside Japan, which combined with the new systems, will boost the company’s total output to 1,815kW (1.8MW).

Electronic giant LG is hoping to cash in on the upcoming IFA trade show as a bridge to bolster its international presence. LG is planning to show off its 3D-related technology in Germany, including its 3D organic LED (OLED) TV. LG will introduce its 31-inch OLED TV with a thickness of 0.29 centimeters _ the slimmest OLED TV on the planet _ at the trade fair. OLED TV is better than LCD and plasma televisions in terms of brightness, though higher premiums are regarded as the biggest drawback for an early market penetration.

Epson Toyocom has developed an extremely small absolute pressure sensor (XP-6000CA) that provides excellent accuracy and resolution. In addition to offering high accuracy and high resolution, the Epson XP-6000CA sensor provides stable output even under varying external temperatures and environmental conditions because the sensor element is made of highly stable quartz crystal. The new sensor's pressure measurements are resistant to the effects of noise because it uses frequency counting, a principle based on crystal measurement technology, to measure pressure.
NEC announced the development of a first-of-its-kind durable new biomass-based plastic (bioplastic) that is produced from non-edible plant resources. The bioplastic is created by bonding cellulose a main component of plant stems, with cardanol ,a primary component of cashew nut shells, which achieves a level of durability that is suitable for electronic equipment and boasts a high plant composition ratio of more than 70%.This newly developed bioplastic will be formally announced at The Chemical Society of Japan / Kanto Branch meeting at the University of Tsukuba on August 31, 2010.

Toyota today announced that in line with its efforts to ensure an ever-safer traffic environment, it will begin sales on August 30 of an onboard device designed to alert pedestrians and others audibly to the presence of its quiet Prius hybrid car in Japan. Toyota is the world's first automaker to launch an accessory to alert pedestrians of approaching vehicles. The onboard device automatically emits a synthesized sound of an electric motor when the Prius is operating as an electric vehicle at speeds up to approximately 25 km/h. The sound—aimed to alert but not annoy—rises and falls in pitch relative to the vehicle's speed, thus helping indicate the vehicle's proximity and movement.
