Sanyo’s Gopan, a machine that bakes bread from rice, has been such a smash hit since its November debut that the manufacturer has had to stop taking orders. The Gopan represents seven years of cross-division effort by Sanyo engineers. Sanyo hopes Gopan will hopefully help curb Japan's long-declining rice consumption and raise the nation's food self-sufficiency, the worst among major industrialized countries. Sanyo Gopan turns uncooked rice, along with other ingredients including salt and yeast, into a fresh loaf in about four hours at the push of a button.

At the 2011 CES in Las Vegas, LG will unveil the LW6500, a CINEMA 3DTM TV designed to take 3D TV to new heights of brightness and clarity. The LG LW6500’s outstanding 3D picture begins with LG’s proprietary Film-type Patterned Retarder (FPR) panel, which optimizes the separation of images for the left and right eyes. The images are then filtered through specially designed glasses to give viewers truly crisp, blur-free images that leap off the screen. Because LG’s CINEMA 3DTM technology does not require shutter glasses, images displayed on the LW6500 are entirely free of flicker. This innovation resulted in the LW6500 receiving a “Flicker Free” certification from Intertek and TÜV, two of the most respected inspection and certification bodies in the world. The LW6500 is the first 3D TV in the world to receive this designation. The LG LW6500 also improves picture quality with 3D Light Boost, a thin film covering the screen that ensures 3D images are shown at maximum brightness.
NEC announced today that it succeeded in the world's first simulation-based prediction of laser-induced photochemical reactions that can efficiently eject a hydrogen atom from a hydrogen chloride molecule trapped inside a carbon nanotube. The simulation was conducted on the Earth Simulator which NEC deployed for the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology. These results are expected to pave the way for the quantity synthesis of not only hydrogen, but also inexpensive materials through the facilitation of known photochemical reactions due to the laser pulse irradiation, as well as the development of new materials.
Thermaltake announced the launch of world’s first storage enclosure solution with dual-fan design- Thermaltake Max 5G. With the dual 80mm fans, the Max 5G can effectively exhaust heat out of the storage enclosure to lower the internal temperature. The Thermaltake Max 5G also offers high compatibility by implementing eSATA as well as USB 2.0 interfaces with high transfer rates; USB 2.0 with up to 480Mbps and eSATA with up to 3Gbps. The Thermaltake Max 5G supports all 3.5 inch SATA I, II, 3.0 and 6G hard drives up to 2TB. In order to enhance the overall enclosure stability, the Max 5G comes with a device stand with easy twist-out functionality.
