Mazda ordered to pay 63 million yen in damages over a former employee who committed suicide after working excessive overtime hours and suffering from depression: Presiding Judge Ryuji Nakamura of the Himeji branch of the Kobe District, Japan on Monday ordered Mazda Motor to pay about 63 million yen ($7, 71183) in damages to the parents of a former employee who committed suicide in 2007 after working excessive overtime hours and suffering from depression. The Court said Mazda should have taken care of the health of the employee, who was given no support from his boss when his work hours were prolonged due to a spate of difficulties with business clients.

Japanese humanoid robot on the Space Station to communicate through Twitter while astronauts are asleep: Japan’s space agency is considering putting a talking humanoid robot on the International Space Station to watch the mission while astronauts are asleep, monitor their health and stress levels and communicate to Earth through the microblogging site Twitter. Following up on NASA’s Robonaut R-2 program, which is set for launch on the Discovery shuttle next week, the Japanese android would be part of a larger effort to create and refine robots that can be used by the elderly.
