Fujitsu today announced that it will establish an online e-book store offering a wide variety of digital content starting May 2011. The new service is designed as one way for Fujitsu to expand its PC and mobile phone business in Japan, offering an environment that will allow customers to fully enjoy digital publications. As a first step, Fujitsu's new online e-book store will provide digital content through a partnership with Dai Nippon Printing Co and DNP's affiliate, MobileBook.jp Inc. Through its partnership Fujitsu will be offering a large-scale catalog of e-book content. The service will offer approximately 300,000 magazines, white papers, statistical information, survey reports, and other publications geared towards business people provided by G-Search Limited, a Fujitsu Group company.

Mitsubishi Electric has developed world's first fully monolithically integrated laser diode for use in transmission devices that transmits large date volumes between metropolitan areas at 43 giga-bits per second (Gbps) in a method called Return to Zero Differential Quadrature Phase Shift Keying (RZ-DQPSK). Consisting of a tunable laser array, an RZ Mach-Zehnder modulator and a DQPSK Mach-Zehnder modulator, this new laser diode achieves tuning control over the range of 95channels at 40nm in standard set by the 50-GHz International Telecommunication Union Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T).
LG is presenting a full line-up of commercial air conditioning solutions at Climatización, Europe’s premier air conditioning exhibition, being held in Madrid. At the center of the LG exhibit will be enhanced commercial air conditioning systems including the Multi V III, and the newly released Therma V and Air Handling Unit (AHU). The Multi V III boasts a 4.58 coefficient of performance and bigger capacity per unit with an extended piping length of 1,000m. In addition, LG’s H-Inverter and Compressor greatly enhance efficiency on the Multi V III, reducing energy use by up to 11 percent compared with previous models.
Shanghai GM yesterday recalled more than 230,000 Buick Regal and Buick LaCrosse models over faulty engine pipelines in China. Shanghai GM's recall is the biggest in China's auto industry this year and is the third of its kind for GM in China over the past two months. The joint venture between GM and SAIC Motor said the cars included 133,074 Buick Regal mid-class sedans with 2.0 or 2.4 liter engines produced by Shanghai GM between September 18, 2008 and October 14, 2010. The recall also affected 99,857 2.4-liter Buick LaCrosse sedans made between April 20, 2009 and October 14, 2010. Defects in engine pipelines could cause fuel leakages and result in sudden flameouts or a failure to start. There were also fire risks if there were sparks, the company said.
Toyota today unveiled the FT-86 II concept at the 81st Geneva International Motor Show here. FT-86 II concept from Toyota will be on display for the press until March 2 and for the public from March 3 to 13. The FT-86 II concept is the result of an August 2009 announcement that Toyota and Fuji Heavy Industries will launch a jointly developed compact rear-wheel drive sports car. Toyota FT-86 II concept is currently the world's only rear-wheel-drive sports car equipped with a horizontally opposed engine (concept vehicle), and features a combination of core rear-wheel-drive sports car technologies Toyota has developed and horizontally opposed engine and other technologies that Subaru is renowned for.
The Massachusetts Company Joule Unlimited has created a genetically engineered organism capable of producing diesel fuel or ethanol, which can be used to run cars and jet engines. Joule says it can produce diesel using the same ingredients that make grass grow .The organism that Joule created is called a cyanobacterium, and it uses water, sunlight and carbon dioxide to produce and secrete renewable fuels. Joule’s process for photosynthetic fuel production uses a solar converter and microorganism to capture sunlight and convert carbon dioxide and water directly into liquid fuels and chemicals.
Keio Electric Railway introduced surveillance cameras in one of its trains in Japan on Monday in an attempt to combat commuter groping. According to Keio, which runs trains linking Shinjuku with the western Tokyo suburb of Hachioji, four cameras were put in the ceiling of one of the 10-car trains on the Keio Line. The cameras are installed in car No. 6. Keio plans to install surveillance cameras on another train this month. The cameras record images while the train is in operation and could be handed to police as evidence.
Tokyo Sky Tree, under construction in Tokyo, topped the 600-meter mark Tuesday, becoming the world’s highest self-standing tower nearly two years and seven months after the construction began in July 2008, the operator said. The new communications tower in Tokyo’s Sumida Ward reached 601 meters, eclipsing the 600-meter-high Canton Tower in China, Tobu Tower Sky Tree Co said. It will enter the final phase of construction to reach the 634-meter tidemark, the operator said.

Presiding Judge Ryuji Nakamura of the Himeji branch of the Kobe District, Japan on Monday ordered Mazda Motor to pay about 63 million yen ($7, 71183) in damages to the parents of a former employee who committed suicide in 2007 after working excessive overtime hours and suffering from depression. The Court said Mazda should have taken care of the health of the employee, who was given no support from his boss when his work hours were prolonged due to a spate of difficulties with business clients.
