Epson today announced that it had developed the M-Tracer, a sophisticated yet easy-to-use wireless motion measurement system that can be attached to a person or object to gather and analyze motion data from sports and other activities. The M-Tracer is a self-contained system that combines a highly accurate and stable Epson inertial measurement unit (IMU) with analytical 3D visualization software that processes kinetic motion data captured by the IMU. In addition to human motion analysis, the M-Tracer can be used to measure and analyze the motion of industrial equipment.

A donor in Japan left 40 million yen ($518,000) in cash in a toilet at Hachinobe City Hall in Aomori prefecture together with a note saying- let the people of the four prefectures affected by the March 11 earthquake and subsequent tsunami use 10 million yen ($130,000) each. In accordance with the Japanese law, the officials will hold the cash for three months after which time the city will be entitled to claim the cash if the rightful owner does not do so. After the officials will send the cash to Fuksushima, Miyagi, Iwate and Aomori prefectures.

Sony is in talks to end its joint venture with Samsung for the production of LCD panel for televisions. Sony, which owns around half of the South Korea-based S-LCD Corp., aims to sell its shareholding to Samsung. Sony hopes to reach an agreement with Samsung by the end of this year. It is expected that Sony's TV-related business will be in deficit in the current business year through next March for the eighth straight year. Established in 2004, S-LCD represents a 50:50 investment by Samsung and Sony. The joint venture is dedicated to the manufacturing of LCD panels for TVs. S-LCD's manufacturing facility boasts the most advanced manufacturing equipment for 7th-generation LCD panels. Sony has invested 1.95 trillion won ($1.71 billion) at the current exchange rate, so far and has received around half of the venture's LCD output in accordance with its investment ratio.
Samsung unveiled its 5.3-inch smartphone Galaxy Note in London today. The size of Galaxy Note makes it a kind of halfway house between a phone and a tablet PC. The phone was originally to be released in the U.S. first, but Samsung changed its mind. Its 5.3-inch screen makes it easier for users to make notes or watch videos than the 3-4-inch screens of normal smartphones. It is equipped with a dual-core 1.4GHz processor and Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, is 9.65 mm thick and weighs 178 g.
