Apple reports most profitable quarter on record in spite of 8 percent less iPod sale

steve-jobs.jpg Fiscal 2009 fourth quarter was the most profitable for Apple thanks to record Macintosh computer and iPhone sales. In the quarter ended on Sept. 26, Apple posted net profit of 1.67 billion U.S. dollars and revenue of 9.87 billion dollars, which represented increase of 47 percent and 25 percent respectively, compared with the same quarter a year earlier. Apple sold 3.05 million Macintosh computers in the quarter, up 17 percent from the year-ago period. Sales of iPhones also rose 7 percent year-on-year to 7.4 million units.

Sale of iPod media players for the same quarter stood at 10.2 million pieces-, a decline of 8 percent from a year earlier. For the whole fiscal year of 2009, Apple's revenue grew by 12 percent and net income increased by 18 percent despite the extraordinarily challenging times. According to Steve Jobs, Apple has got a very strong lineup for the holiday season and some really great new products in the pipeline for 2010
