Huawei and China Telecom today announced the successful commercial deployment of the world’s first five terabits per second (Tb/s) cluster router system on the operator’s metropolitan area network in Xi’an. With the traffic of 3G services and multi-media applications continuing to grow rapidly, Shaanxi Telecom has successfully upgraded the capacity of its existing Huawei cluster router of 2.56Tb/s to 5Tb/s (4 cluster line-card chassis each with 1.28Tb/s capacity and 2 cluster central chassis configuration) without service interruption and hardware replacements.

The successful deployment of the 5Tb/s cluster router system will enable Shaanxi Telecom to address customer demand for high bandwidths, and will also provide a solid foundation for future network evolution.
