MHI to launch World's largest Nuclear Reactor in Europe with World’s highest thermal efficiency!

MHI_water_reactor.jpg Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. will start selling the world's largest advanced pressurized water reactor in Europe. MHI plans to submit an application to European nuclear authorities to approve the launch of the APWR, which has a power generation capacity of 1.7-million-kilowatt, as early as May or June. It hopes to take the first order by the end of 2010.

The APWR, which the company has already launched in the United States, is based on the 1.5-million kilowatt APWR to be installed at the Tsurugu power station of Japan Atomic Power Co. in Fukui Prefecture; northern Japan.The redesigned reactor has a thermal efficiency of 39 pct, which the company claims to be the highest in the world.
