The EC-Dii prototype fuel-cell bike from Yamaha Motor Co. will be displayed at the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show, which will open at Makuhari Messe in Chiba on Oct. 27 and run through Nov. 11.The new model is a further evolution of the “FC-me” fuel cell motorcycle using a methanol-water solution as fuel, unveiled in Sept. 2005 with significant performance improvements. The new Yamaha EC-Dii prototype fuel-cell bike is enhanced with new features like a Yamaha-exclusive compact cell stack that features the highest level of power density in the 1kW class, a detachable lithium-ion battery for easy recharging, modular design components, readily available parts and improved serviceability aimed at achieving practical use .The new fuel cell system achieves a top-level performance of 30% system efficiency for a DMFC (Direct Methanol Fuel Cell) system.

The fuel-cell bike, powered by methanol and a rechargeable lithium battery, is one of 19 concept vehicles Yamaha says it will exhibit under the ''Art of Engineering'' theme at the Tokyo Motor Show.
